15 December 2010 - International publisher World Scientific Publishing Company (WSPC) has launched the World Scientific-Imperial College London Scholarship.
The Scholarship award which is open for application to students who have a place at the Imperial College London, will benefit successful applicants from Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. It includes a disbursement of £5000 (about US$8,000) per annum for a period of up to four years on a performance renewable basis and upon graduation, the student will be granted an internship at the Company.
The Scholarship's first recipient is 19-year-old Malaysian student Mr Liew Bo Yuan, who reads Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the College. Mr Liew said, "I am honored to be the recipient of the WSPC scholarship, offering me a better life while studying at Imperial College and experiencing things beyond expectations. The award has greatly helped me in lowering costs required to further my university education at Imperial College thus reducing the burden of my dear parents."
Commenting on the Scholarship, Mr Max Phua, Executive Director, World Scientific Publishing said, "World Scientific is strongly committed to the progress of science and technology and as part of our efforts in doing so, we have introduced this scholarship to benefit students who are in pursuit of it for the betterment of our society at large."
