WORLD SCIENTIFIC AUTHOR AWARDED NOBEL PRIZE IN ECONOMICS 2011

Thomas J. Sargent

World Scientific author Thomas A. Sargent has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics for 2011.

Sharing the most prestigious award in the field with Princeton economist Christopher Sims for their joint work on the cause-and-effect relationship between policy and the economy, Professor Sargent now enters the ranks of world class Nobel Prize economists like Harry Markowitz, Eric Maskin and William Sharpe who are also World Scientific authors. His prize-winning research focused on the longer-term structural analysis of the economy through a study of the various economic issues based on historical data, where he conducted experiments to discover how these types of policy changes would affect the economy in the long term.

Congratulating Professor Sargent on his award, World Scientific Chairman Dr K.K. Phua said, "The Nobel Prize is the highest award given to the most outstanding contribution of a particular scientific field and I am happy to see Professor Sargent receiving it. His work is an inspiration to many economists."

Among the many books that he has published like Rational Expectation and Economic Practice and Recursive Macroeconomic Theory, Professor Sargent is also set to publish his latest title with World Scientific entitled "Robustness and Macroeconomics" which is due to be published in mid-2012.
