15 December 2011 – World Scientific author Dr Eugene Fitzgerald has been honoured by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest technical professional society, with the prestigious IEEE Andrew S. Grove Award 2011.
Along with his co-award winner Judy L.Hoyt, Dr Fitzgerald broke ground in their research on strained silicon semiconductor materials that now enables the continued shrinking of integrated circuits and faster chips.
Dr Fitzgerald, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor and inventor, and also the co-author of Inside Real Innovation: How The Right Approach Can Move Ideas From R&D to Market – And Get the Economy Moving, said, "I'm happy to see our research efforts bear fruit and hope that this can bring us all to the next frontier in technological breakthroughs."
The duo will receive the IEEE Award on 6 December 2011.
