Science Community Toasts MIT Professor Frank Wilczek, Betsy Devine and Fantastic Realities

A book launch party was held on April 27, 2006 for MIT Professor Frank Wilczek's latest publication, Fantastic Realities. While primarily an entertaining collection of essays, poems, and other writings by the Nobel Prize-winning professor of physics, Fantastic Realities also features some jokes and extracts by Frank's wife, Betsy Devine, on what is it like to "live through" the Nobel Prize experience.

Held at the home of World Scientific commissioning editor Dorian Devins and her husband, Rob Fierstein, the party was attended by friends and colleagues from science publishing, journalism, institutions and universities such as the New York Academy of Sciences, Rutgers University, City University of New York, and New York University. Representatives from the scientific magazines Seed and Discover were also spotted in the crowd. In the realm of cosmology and physics, Lee Smolin of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Ontario, Canada, and Columbia University's Jana Levin, among others, joined in the festivities.

Also offering his congratulations was Steve Mirsky of the Scientific American, who managed to catch Frank Wilczek and Betsy Devine for an interview. Tune in to the Scientific Amercian audio podcast as Professor Wilczek talks about the book and his research. Betsy Devine shares a light-hearted moment as she talks about receiving the phone call from Stockholm informing them about Professor Wilzcek winning the Nobel Prize.
