Pioneers of Modern China Book Launch
World Scientific is honored to be the publisher of Pioneers of Modern China: Understanding the Inscrutable Chinese - the latest book by Former Ambassador of Singapore Lee Khoon Choy. This fascinating book paints a vivid picture of the unique cultural characteristics and behavior of the Chinese in the various provinces, offering an in-depth look into the psyche of the Chinese people.
The book launch was held on 9 Jan 2006 at the Tanglin Club in Singapore. Graced by Guest of Honor, Foreign Minister of Singapore Mr George Yeo, the event attracted about 80 guests ranging from Foreign Ambassadors to organizations and academics.
The evening began with a welcome speech from Chairman of World Scientific Publishing Co, Professor KK Phua. Following that, the Guest of Honor, Minister George Yeo delivered a speech where he described the author Mr Lee as an artist who depicts reality in "lovely impressionistic sketches''. Mr Lee Khoon Choy then addressed the audience, sharing some of his experiences as a journalist-turned-diplomat. The book launch concluded with a dinner reception and a book-signing session.
Throughout the event, our friendly World Scientific staff were present to attend to sales enquiries and ensure that the event went smoothly. Numerous copies of Pioneers of Modern China were snapped up during the launch, as well as several of Mr Lee's previous titles with World Scientific, Diplomacy of a Tiny State (2nd Edition), Japan - Between Myth and Reality and A Fragile Nation: The Indonesian Crisis.
