World Scientific joins the physics community and many ordinary Israelis in mourning the sad passing of renowned physicist and Former Israeli minister Professor Yuval Ne'eman. Founder of Israel's space program, Ne'eman had also served as science and energy minister, head of the Israeli intelligence division, and head of the atomic energy committee.
A highly respected contributor to particle physics, astrophysics, cosmology and the philosophy of science, Professor Yuval Ne'eman's works can be found in numerous World Scientific publications.
These most notably include his recently published Selected Research Papers, entitled "Matter Particled -- Patterns, Structure and Dynamics" edited by R. Ruffini (University of Rome "La Sapienza", Italy) & Y. Verbin (The Open University of Israel, Israel). He also contributed a volume to World Scientific's Lecture Notes in Physics, entitled Membranes and Other Extendons ("p-Branes").
A member of the organizing committee, Professor Ne'eman was also a contributor to many of prestigious Marcel Grossmann Meetings on General Relativity, Gravitation and Relativistic Field Theories, whose proceedings have been published by World Scientific, including the most recent Proceedings of the 10th Marcel Grossmann Meeting.
Professor Ne'eman received numerous awards: the Israel Prize in the field of exact sciences as well as the Einstein Medal, both in 1969. In 2003, he received the EMET Prize for Arts, Sciences and Culture for his pioneering contribution in the deciphering of the atomic nucleus and its components, and for his enormous scientific contribution to the development of sub-atomic physics in Israel.
