NEW WORLD SCIENTIFIC HQ TO OPEN THIS YEAR
ith the rapid development of our Singapore operations over the past few years, the management has anticipated for some time the need for larger premises. Later this year, therefore, World Scientific will be relocating its headquarters to its own building on Toh Tuck Link, Singapore. Construction of this five-storey building began in August 1997, and should be completed by July this year. Following renovations, the building should be ready for the staff to move into by the autumn.
The new office will be the first World Scientific headquarters built to our specifications. And with a total area of over 6000 m2, it will be by far the largest World Scientific premises ever.
The first three levels of the five-storey building will be devoted to warehouse space, giving us the opportunity to explore warehousing as a further area we might diversify into. Along with the larger office space, there will be a seminar room and a boardroom suitable for visiting speakers to deliver lectures, and for hosting some of our corporate events. There will even be an exhibition centre on the first level, in which customers may browse through our books at their leisure.
Staff welfare has also been taken into consideration, with a pantry and a staff room provided on the fourth and fifth levels, respectively. Other new facilities include two libraries — located on the fourth and fifth floors — and a roof garden. In addition, the staff will now have access to a company car park, with a total capacity of 21 vehicles.
A model of the new building (see front page) was on display for the first time at World Scientific's Annual Dinner & Dance in January 1998. With the company approaching its third decade in publishing, as well as the next millennium, the model perfectly embodied the chosen theme of the evening, 'A New Era. A New Vision.'
